Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger Episode 13 - Performance Review! If It Doesn't Hurt, Then That's All Right! - Review / Thoughts

So here we have it, the very last episode of Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger. For those unaware, episode 13 is a recap episode, so it's by no means necessary to watch this if you're short of time or just don't feel like revisiting the series so soon.

It is pretty good though, and far better than I thought it would be. While it shows bits of every episode, we have commentary over them from the 3 Akibarangers and Hakase themselves. They obviously remain in character throughout, and there are plenty of laughs to be had from their comments alone.

Also, since they are watching things on the DVD sent to them by the series producer, they get to see themselves during things such as their henshin sequence, and also see in to each others' delusions that was impossible for them in the series itself.

Basically the "plot" of this episode (if it can be called that) is that the producer of Akibaranger has sent them a DVD of all they have done, and tells them that if they ever want a season 2, then they should watch the DVD as a performance review. At the end Akagi however realises that they fell for the same trick again, and that this wasn't a performance review at all, but was just a cheap recap episode to fill in Akibaranger's last slot with the TV station.

Then at the end the last minute or so is actually pretty awesome, and has Akagi and the others urging all the fans to pester Toei and buy loads of the merchandise so that they will consider making another Akibaranger series. It's actually pretty hilarious, plus I thought it was pretty damn cool seeing the 3 of them in their suits but without the helmets on.

Despite this being a recap episode, I really enjoyed it in all honesty. It was still really enjoyable, due in part no doubt to the brilliant - and frequently hilarious - commentary from Akagi, Yumeria and Mitsuki. This episode did a good job of hitting home just how great the Akibaranger series is/was, and how much I am going to miss it now it's gone.

I am really hoping that Akibaranger gets another series, or at least a movie or something. It's a fantastic series, and it would feel like such a shame to just let it end so suddenly. All I can really say is that this has been one heck of an awesome ride, and my only complaint is that the series had to come to an end.

If you haven't seen this series, I highly recommend you give it a watch. You don't need to like Super Sentai to enjoy it, it has more than enough humour to keep anyone entertained, and it very rarely fails to do that.

So yes, this pretty much concludes the series and this review, and I am sure there will be plenty of people like me keeping our fingers crossed for some new Akibaranger announcement in future, so until then, just remember to always try and be as deluded as Akagi and things will be fine!
